Gerald Walker (ジェラルド・ウォーカー, Jerarudo Wōkā) is Takumi's older half-brother, Patricia's son and a successful businessman. He is established in England and currently lives in the Raven Castle along with other Walker Family members and employees. Gerald also has Cedric Morris as a personal bodyguard.

Appearance[]

Gerald is a tall, handsome young man with straight, dark blue hair and light blue eyes. He inherited Patricia's weak body and it is assumed he has the same illness as her. Gerald is usually seen wearing a business suit. Even though Gerald and Takumi don't have the same father, they really do look very similar; the only noticeable difference being their hair & eye color. After observing his reaction to the apples Misaki brought for Usui, Misaki Ayuzawa concludes (albeit comically) that Gerald and Usui are similar, yet not similar at the same time.

Personality[]

Gerald has a same cool aura as his younger half-brother, but tends to change to a dangerous one when talking business and important stuff. He has a playful personality and, according to himself, he tends to overestimate himself when everything goes well for him. Gerald dislikes Japan for its dislike of smokers, though he does like the cheap cigarettes. Though he appears devious and calculating, he is strangely jovial and enjoys teasing Cedric Morris, similar to how Takumi makes fun of his acquaintances. Gerald is seen to be sincere and serious when the moment calls for it.

Gerald is also quite calm, rational and collected. He has some morals and is pretty respectful, as seen when he didn't check into Takumi's phone when he had the chance to do it. Gerald usually tends to change from a strangely cheerful attitude to a dangerous one. Gerald cares for his family and its reputation and also for all the people around him. As claimed by Edward, Gerald really has the ability to manage business.[1]However, Gerald states his abilities are because he has important people around him, thus making him modest. He is very popular and smiles a lot. However, Gerald appears to also have a softer side.  According to Edward, he is intelligent and has a sense of responsibility and tends to take everything upon himself, just like his mother.[2] When his grandfather scold him for everything that happened regarding Takumi, he didn't say anything, thus making Gerald realize and admitting his mistake. He also was downcast and felt guilty after this event.

Background[]

Gerald is the child of Patricia Walker and Edward Walker. After his mother's death, nobody was wishing to tell him

the truth.  One day, he finds Patricia's diary and reads it.[3] As he is the legitimate son of one of the most important companies, he constantly has bodyguard(s) following him around, sometimes jumping out of nowhere. According to his father, Gerald is a very capable business man. He runs many lifestyle stores around England with Raven Castle's special goods (wine and lavender field) as its main product. Gerald is also a very popular and influenceable man. Everyday, when guests visit the castle, he affectionately sends them of. He is adored and relied on by those around him, as claimed by Takumi.[4]

Plot[]

Gerard

Gerald's debut

Before his debut, Gerald sends his most trusted bodyguard to watch over Usui and make sure he does not get too comfortable with Misaki, much to Usui's chagrin and annoyance. Gerald makes his first appearance during café's buffet party, when he, surrounded by bodyguards, accidentally scares Misaki. As he is apologizing for it, she is very surprised because of his resemblance with Usui.[5]

When Misaki decides to go to Takumi, Gerald, disguising himself by a wig which makes him look exactly like Takumi, welcomes Misaki. She sees through his trick and asks him, with a serious look, if Takumi is around.[6] Gerald asks her to come in but Misaki refuses, as the owner didn't give his consent. Gerald is surprised, commenting to himself about Misaki that she is a strong willed woman.[7] Then he smiles, takes off his wig, and introduces himself as Takumi's brother. Misaki recognizes him as the guy whom she spotted at the party.[8] He welcomes her and Misaki notices that Takumi and Gerald radiate the same appearance. When Gerald asks if she has an important message for Takumi, she tells him that she came to give him some apples.[9] Gerald happily looks at her, mentioning that he is very fond of apples. Misaki offers him some,[10] but Gerald ends up cutting his finger while trying to cut the apples.[11] Suddenly, a lot of bodyguards appear and tend to Gerald’s wound[12], advising him to leave for tonight. He decides to do so and decides to leave a bodyguard to stay with Misaki and take care of her.[13]

As he is about to leave, Takumi arrives. Gerald welcomes him but Takumi doesn’t looks happy after seeing his brother.[14] They start conversing in English, much to Misaki’s confusion. Takumi asks him the reason for him to come to his house, but Gerald refuses to talk now.[15] While leaving, he says “I think a dog running away from discipline, must have its bones crushed to pieces. Don’t go around doing disobedient things now”.[16] Outside, Gerald starts to smoke a ciggarete while commenting on Japan. When Cedric tells him to treat his wound as soon as possible, Gerald leaves while saying to Cedric to take care of the rest.[17]

While Gerald is hospitalized, Cedric makes him a visit, inquiring about his health and injury.[18] Gerald comments and makes fun of Cedric's appearance at first, and then asks about Takumi.[19] Later, in Takumi's apartment, Takumi and Gerald are seen talking to each other, with Gerald informing him that he will be leaving for UK tonight.[20] Gerald states that Takumi preferred living here because it was comfortable, however, he has no friends and in addition to that, he lives alone. Takumi says that he does have a friend whom he might find difficult to part with and Gerald recognizes the friend as Misaki.[21] Gerald tells him that he cannot cut ties with the Walker Family and he ought to realize his ‘position’. He also compliments on the fact that Takumi is smiling even while getting angry.[22] At last, Gerald says that he must have realized that he [Takumi] and Misaki cannot be together.[23]

Later, Gerald makes Cedric wear the Ninja outfit for fun. Cedric is seen talking with Gerald on the phone, and Gerald states that he must be having fun.[24] He further says that no matter how much Takumi resists, this is for his own good. When Cedric tells him that he actually dressed as a ninja, Gerald demands for a photo.[25] And after seeing it, he sends a mail, stating that he is very fortunate to have someone like him [Cedric] who lets him to tease him that much.[26] After some time, Cedric is seen talking to Gerald on phone, and is horrified as he hears that Gerald is coughing.[27] Gerald tells him that he burnt too much incense and got chocked by the smell of lavender, and after hearing this, Cedric refuses to follow any orders and decides to come back to England.[28] More later, Tora is seen talking to Gerald on phone, who tells him that he really appreciates him for his efforts, asking him to take good care of Takumi, calling Tora “Tiger-kun”.[29] After he hangs up, Tora calls both, him and Takumi, despicable.[30] After some time, Tora and Gerald are seen, again, talking on the phone, planning a grand celebration for Takumi's birthday on April 27th, with the intention of making him get used to the position of “main character”.[31]

Later, Gerald is informed by Cedric that he (Cedric) received a notification from Takumi that he is heading to England. Gerald is surprised and asks Cedric what kind of joke is this.[32] When Takumi comes to the Raven Castle, Gerald arrives and greets Takumi, and tells him that they should celebrate their reunion with some wine. He also asks him if he liked England so far.[33] Gerald tells him that he contacted his parents for queries, and was relieved to know that they happily sent him [Takumi] to England.[34] He asks Takumi if he came as a guest or as a member of the Walker Family.[35] Gerald and Cedric are then seen talking to Edward Walker, who happily praises Gerald for his work.[36]

The maids talk among themselves that Gerald would be a suitable head of the family.[37] Gerald starts coughing, and tells Cedric that he choked himself again.[38] He then tells Cedric that he needs his father’s help to keep the duke in his room.[39] At [[[Maid Latte]], Hinata asks Misaki if Takumi really left for England.[40] Soon, Maria arrives and shows a video message to Misaki, which has been sent from Gerald.[41] He describes the Castle and uses some voice effects for Takumi.[42] Gerald also leaves a message to Misaki in which he tells her that she doesn't have to worry, but to

work hard for her entrance exams.[43] Back in England, Gerald describes to Takumi that he needs to promote himself in order to get rid of the image of “a illegitimate child”. Takumi asks if he is serious about bringing him back to the family, because Gerald is the only one who wishes for it. Even though Gerald agrees, Takumi bluntly refuses, and asks Gerald to let him meet his grandfather.[44] Gerald starts coughing and refuses, saying that the

grandfather is ill and that he won't let him receive any shock. Gerald says to Takumi that he will allow him to meet him once the preparations are over.[45] Then, Gerald is seen speaking to himself and telling that he and Takumi are similar since they tend to overstimate ourselves when everything goes well for us. He also says that Takumi won’t be able to go back.[46]

Later, Gerald decides to take Takumi out. While they are in the car, Gerald asks Takumi where should they go and then states that he already decided their destination[47]:a shop in London to have some suits prepared for him. He tells him that its one of his favorites tailor.[48] While the tailor takes Takumi’s body measurements, Gerald locks up his phone in a box, telling Takumi that this time he won't pick his methods and that he will keep his phone safe. He also states that he will return it back when the party that has to be held especially for him ends.[49]

Then Gerald confines Takumi to a room, forbidding him to come out or he will destroy his phone. Gerald apologies for this saying that he doesn't have the time to make Cedric keep watch here and that he wants him to wait in the room obediently. He also tells Takumi that his meal will be brought to him by the maids and if there's anything he wants, he just needs to ring the bell and then tells him not to smash the doors as they are valuable cultural properties in the house.[50] After leaving the room, Gerald again starts coughing, making Cedric worried.[51]

After Takumi finishes reading his mother's diary which he received from Gilbert, Gerald comes in and asks him if he read everything. Takumi replies  that "it was an unprecedented story about a mother who was hungry for love."[52] Gerald then says that no one was willing to tell him the truth about her death when he was young. Takumi comments that he [Gerald] was mama's spoiled child. Gerald replies that he really loved her then and that though she was a sadist, she was still very gentle towards him. He also says that after finding out the truth by reading the diary he felt betrayed and never dreamt that that it would happen.[53]

Gerald telling Takumi he hates his existence

Then Gerald tells Takumi that he hates his existence but, for him, who has a weak body just like mother, he [Takumi] is his trump card. He says that it'd be better than giving the castle to someone else, even if they have different fathers. Takumi asks if blood relations are that important and Gerald replies that it is and that his mother told him to protect the castle even if it kills him.[54] Looking at his clock, Gerald says that it's time for bringing his dinner and asks Takumi to give him the diary. He also states that if he [Takumi] resents his misfortune, it will be easier to resent mother and him [Gerald] instead. Then Gerald leaves, while telling Takumi not to hold back and to come to him.[55] During the Raven Castle Festival, when Misaki arrives in England, Gerald and Cedric had found her, to her horror. Gerald thinks that she didn’t come alone so he asks who she is with.[56] She wanted to hide it but to her shock, he already knew that it is Tora. Gerald states that it looked so fun when she was in a helicopter that he was really envious. Then he makes a serious face, telling Misaki it's about time to stop this child's play.[57] Since Gerald wants to capture her, Misaki quickly runs away and Cedric is right behind her. Gerald is seen eating a hamburger while watching Cedric and Misaki running. He thinks that there wasn't any need for her to run[58] and that with Misaki in his hand, there is no other reason for Takumi to go back.[59] Later, when Misaki and Takumi reunite, Gerald makes his appearance after they kiss. Takumi suddenly shouts to Gerald his apology for making a ruckus. Gerald comments

that they are quite gutsy. This made Misaki embarrassed for kissing in public with so many people watching. Gerald is telling someone to treat Misaki’s injury and for Takumi to change his clothes and give everyone... Someone shouts that isn’t necessary.[60] They are all surprised to see Takumi’s grandfather with Gilbert.[61] Takumi’s grandfather asks if this is all done by Gerald[62]  and tells him that from today on,the day he [Richard] will see Takumi's face will never come again.[63] While the people are discussing over what happened, Gerald is telling Takumi about how his plan was ruined.[64] He gives Takumi’s phone back with the assurance of not looking inside it. He comments about it being old and how about replacing the phone. Takumi insists on using it since it isn’t broken.[65] Gerald makes a comparison about how Takumi views his cellphone and lover.[66] Later, Gerald seems to be doing some damage control with some socialite people who

wanted to meet with Takumi. And, his grandfather won’t meet with them either. Cedric tells Gerald that he has a phone call[67] but it seems to be an alibi because upstairs, Gerald had a coughing fit. Cedric tells him to rest, but Gerald refuses because he still has to calm down the media. Grandfather overhears this.[68]

Richard shouts at Gerald if that is all he has to say and nothing more, then leave.[69] Edward appears, commenting that he [Gerald] makes a troubled face again. As Gerald doesn't say anything, Edward adds that something troublesome must has happened today and asks him for a cup of tea.[70] Next, they are seen standing at a table. While Edward drinks his tea, Gerald asks him if he bought that flower, and Edward replies that he did. He then takes the flower that has a smiley face on its patchwork, adding that he couldn't leave it alone as he chanced upon it.[71]  Gerald, still downcast and feeling guilty for that he did, asks his father why isn't him scolding him. Edward, for the first time, opens his eyes, showing a surprised expression. He then comments that Gerald is like Tricia, as he inherited her intelligence, sense of responsibility and the part where he takes everything upon himself. Edward adds that he doesn't think he would've won Tricia as he always lost in anything he competed.[72] He also says, while smiling, that the only thing he's confident of winning is being able to continue loving them all no matter what happens. Edward then starts to speak as the flower he holds, asking Gerald if he knows its name. He adds that its name is "Ficus Pumila" and that, in the language of flowers, it means "You'll cheer me up".[73]  As he doesn't know what to say next as he has no plan, Gerald is cheered up andsincerely smiles, thanking him.[74]

Later, on Christmas, Gerald sends Cedric in Japan to give Takumi a present, which is a leopard bikini brief with a note "Merry Christmas! This is a present from your kind brother! Aren't you touched? The underwear is a bonus! Tiger-kun has also the same one!"[75]

Relationships[]

Takumi Usui[]

Chapter 51

Gerald advising Takumi

Gerald is Takumi's older English half-brother. He and Takumi look almost identical, except that Gerald's hair is straight and dark blue and also his eyes are light blue. Gerald is an active part of the Walker family's plan to control Takumi, and helps in the tracking of Takumi and the plan for his transference to Miyabigaoka. His Japanese is fluent, although he and Takumi usually converse in English. Takumi and Gerald's relationship does not seem to be very good, which might possibly be because of Gerald's interference with Takumi's life and relationship with Misaki. Gerald is disapproving of the relationship between Misaki and Takumi and is out to separate them. Gerald despises Takumi, most probably because he is an illegitimate child. Also, Gerald blames Takumi for his mother's death.

Cedric Morris[]

Cedric is Gerald's most trusted bodyguard and apparently, they've been knowing each other from childhood. Gerald calls Cedric "Ceddy" and enjoys teasing him similar to how Takumi makes fun of his acquaintances. He also sends Cedric to watch over Usui and make sure he does not get too comfortable with Misaki. They seem to get along very well. Cedric goes to Gerald everywhere and they are always seen together. Cedric cares for Gerald beyond his duty, as he worries for his health. Gerald considers himself very fortunate to have someone like Cedric by his side. He also sees Cedric as a great person.

Edward Walker[]

Edward loves Gerald very much. When Patricia was still alive, they went together in a trip. After her death, he was the one that encouraged him, telling him that, no matter what, his mother will always be by his side. Now that Gerald has been growing up, Edward considers himself an useless father. However, Edward is very aware of Gerald's abilities of business and is very proud of him, like when he told him he's amazing. Still, Gerald considers that his abilities are because he has important people around him. They are in a very good relationship. When Gerald was downcast because of the events occurring with Takumi, Edward was the one that cheered him.

Patricia Walker[]

Patricia welcoming gerald

Patricia welcoming Gerald

Patricia loved Gerald from the bottom of her heart. As claimed by him, she was very gentle towards him and he truly loved her back then. Patricia also told Gerald that he has to protect the Raven Castle as a promise with her, thing that he does till today even if it kills him.[76] Patricia was very loving, caring and kind with Gerald, pampering him a lot. She referred to him as "Gerry" and, while writing her last words, Patricia called him her "charming angel".[77] After her death, Gerald was crying a lot. As no one was willing to tell him the truth, he found at some point Patricia's diary and learned  the truth about his mother. He considered himself betrayed as he "never ever dreamt that it would happen"[78] and started to hate Takumi, blaming him for his mother's death.

Richard Rachester[]

Richard is Gerald's grandfather. Their relationships isn't revealed very much, but it seems that Gerald is somehow afraid by his grandfather. He preferred not to tell Richard about Takumi's arrival at Raven Castle, but to keep it a secret.

Tora Igarashi[]

Gerald and Tora seem to get along together, although Tora considers Gerald despicable. They were seen talking a few times on the phone about Takumi. Tora is representing Miyabigaoka in deciding which items (such as oil, candles and cloth products) to bring back to the school.[79]
