Chapter 44...!! is the 44th chapter of the Kaichou wa Maid-Sama! Manga.

Summary

The day of the tournament is here. Takumi greets Misaki in the morning, and smiles as Misaki asks him about yesterday, when she spotted him with Maria. Some of the student council members watch the two of them, as Misaki is yelling at Takumi as usual. They wonder if Takumi likes Misaki, but quickly deny it. Hagimoto tells them that yesterday, he spotted Takumi with Maria.

Later, Misaki advices Maria to wear a jersy as long as the tournament goes on. She also tells her to wait for her after it is over, or she will be surrounded by the boys again. Maria asks he the reason why she is going so far just for her. Misaki turns around, smiles, and says “……If I don’t protect you, who will?” Maria looks at her surprised. The match begins and Hinata shoots one after the other. 2-1 sports committee member tells a guy that Misaki is really amazing because she read all the books that he lent to her in merely few days and even asked him for strategies. At the rooftop, Maria comments that Takumi is still the same as before and always prefers to be alone. She talks about Misaki, and with a blush on her face, she apologizes to him, saying that it seems like her bad habit has been turned on again, much to Takumi’s surprise.

The finals are between class 2-1 and class 2-2. Everyone is surprised that class 2-1 made it this far. But all the happiness is turned into sorrow as Takumi decides to play for class 2-2, and seems rather serious about it. Class 2-2 takes the lead by 46-6 , and everyone is loosing confidence. However, Hinata manages to snatch the ball from Takumi and scores one point. He hopefully looks at Misaki, who smiles at him. Class 2-2 is fairly on the lead, and Misaki wonders if Takumi wants to keep Maria all for himself. The match is over and the victory goes to class 2-2. Misaki thanks everyone for their hardwork, much to their surprise. She praises Hinata, which makes him happy. Maria is again surrounded by boys, but is relieved as Misaki rushes for her aid. She tells her about the plans that she came up with for her safety. She stops in between, and with a sad look, says that is she [Maria] has someone else that she can rely on, then its better if Misaki does not interferes. She is surprised as Maria says that she is not able to suppress herself any longer and it seems like she has fallen in love with her [Misaki]. Takumi face palms at this, while Misaki and everyone else is completely surprised.
